The city is known for producing beedis and famous Solapuri Chadars and towels. It has been a hub for cotton mills and power looms. Solapur also leads in pomegranate farming, and the National Research Centre on Pomegranate is located here. The city has a notable Science Centre and a major power transmission line. It’s home to a deity called Shri Shivyogi Siddheshwar, and the Hindu festival Makar Sankranti is celebrated with a procession and fair.
