Osmanabad, officially known as Dharashiv, is a city and municipal council in Maharashtra, India. It’s located in Osmanabad district and serves as the administrative headquarters. The city’s name originates from the last ruler of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. It’s the seventh largest city in Marathwada and the 39th largest in Maharashtra by population. In February 2023, Osmanabad was renamed Dharashiv, inspired by the Dharashiv Caves.

Cotton ginning and pressing are the main industries here. The city has two colleges affiliated with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad. While the region experiences good annual rainfall, it remains sparsely populated. Most residents are engaged in agriculture, growing millet, pulses, and oilseeds. Cotton cultivation is also present and supports the sole large-scale industry. Nearby attractions include Tuljapur, a holy site dedicated to Maharashtra-Tulja-Bhavani deity, and the Naldurg fort on the Bori River, a historic landmark constructed by Ibrāhīm ʿĀdil Shah.
